Hello and Happy Sunday!

Be sure tomorrow to honor those who gave everything.

On the Home Front

Sunday ~ Got up a bit later than usual. After the morning chores I did a run to Food Lion. When I got home Trip and I fed the critters and I dumped and refilled the bird baths. It's so hot and humid out! I wrestled both hoses into coiled submission then had to change all of my sweat soaked clothes before I started baking. I made banana bars (but bought the frosting), banana bread, beer bread, and 3 lbs of bacon. While the banana bars were baking I cleaned and refilled the feeders for my Tiny Patrons. I was going to make bacon quiche for dinner but ran out of time, so I made another pot of rice to go with the Mississippi pot roast leftovers. I tidied and put away all of the pet food and treats from Chewy, Petsmart, The Natural Dog, and Walmart (Artemis's favorite chewies). I did not get my island tidied like I wanted, but I'll see if I can do that this coming week since it's going to be miserably hot out.

Monday ~ Hot. Anna is on OT, so I took Kyle to work. Fluette came to do the Spring maintenance on my new HVAC. Everything looks good except for 2 issues: the blower (or whatever he called it) inside the unit under the house is coated in plaster dust. He recs cleaning it which I scheduled to do next week since the renovations are done and no more dust is being created. That shit is fucking everywhere. Yeesh. The other issue is when Duggins had to come out and replace the motherboard the 2nd time last year, they left it inside the plastic bag. Fluette is concerned that it's a safety issue because electronics can get hot. Duggins said it's not, that the board doesn't produce enough heat to catch the bag on fire. I called my eldest spawn, who repairs medical equipment and builds computers (I know, not exactly like an HVAC unit) to ask his opinion and he leaned toward taking it out of the plastic bag. However, he went to school with someone who does HVAC for a living, so I contacted him. He wasn't as concerned with it being a safety issue as a moisture issue since any heat inside the bag can cause moisture to form. Anyway, long story that took me several hours to work through, I told Duggins to come out and remove the plastic bag. I totally understand why they did it at the time. There was a shitton of moisture in my crawlspace (those of you who have been following me might remember all the issues I had after it was installed last year) with all the heat, humidity, and rain we had, but there's a new vapor barrier, I had a dehumidifier put under there with it pumping the water to the exterior, and closed all the vents. The preventative measures are working fine. The dehumidifier was registering a humidity of 52. I have it set to 60. The max recommended for a crawlspace. I spent the rest of the day getting caught up on household finance stuff that I'd let slip. Anna and Trip went to Kyleigh's concert while I made a bacon quiche and a ham one for dinner since Trip doesn't like bacon and Anna doesn't particularly like ham.

Tuesday ~ Hot. Took Kyle to work. Went back to bed after and didn't get up until 8:45. Oops. Worked on the blog, waded through emails, etc. Leftovers for dinner.

Wednesday ~ Hot. Kyle had the day off because of a gastro appt in the morning and dermatologist in the afternoon. After the morning app't we got a cone at DQ before heading home. But did a quick stop at ACE Hardware for some sandpaper to fix the arms of the spring chair where the paint bubbled. I sanded that then painted again. It's not the greatest, but better than before so fuck it. I call it good enough. Leftover quiche for dinner and baked potatoes. Finished The Closer. Now I don't know what to watch. Nothing appeals to me. I rewatched the first episode of The Mentalist (again), but even that isn't blowing up my skirt, so to speak. I've searched a couple of shows but they aren't free, so screw them.

Thursday ~ HOT. Grocery shopping, B&N, and CVS plus a lunch at San Marcos. Fed the critters and made new nectar for the Tiny Patrons. Picked Kyle up at Anna's therapy app't. Thunder and darkness rolled in and we eagerly awaited the precious sky pee. It started out light then a gusher flowed gifting us with an inch of precious wetness. Ok, I just creeped myself out. Rain. We got rain we desperately needed. Spaghetti for dinner.

Friday ~ Woke up to dark skies, misty weather, and cooler temps in the 50s. 1" of rain in the rain gauge. Yay! Worked on the blog in the morning, did a few misc. chores, folded 2 large loads of towels, my bedstuff, and my clothes, and then read for the rest of the day. Started and finished an overdue tour book and nearly finished another overdue tour book. Went to bed too late (for me) at 11:00-ish. I made sausage gravy biscuits for dinner.

Saturday ~ Since the dogs went out way late I got up a bit late. Only 1/2" of rain in the rain gauge this morning. We'll take every drop and ask for more. Then played Pokémon for a bit before wrapping Oliver's birthday presents and starting on the cleaning. Since Anna and Trip were going to Oliver's party at 2:00 I did the laundry room first. Trip did the litterboxes and I did the rest. The bidets will be installed this week so I'll wait to clean my bathroom until Tuesday. I changed Eevee's pad under her litterbox, scooped it out, and followed up with some fresh litter. Then I read the rest of the day, finishing one book and starting another. And napped in my chair for a bit. Kyle grilled Italian Sausage for dinner. Chris spent the night. The Hurricanes beat the Canadiens so the series is tied 1-1. While reading I heard noise on the back deck. Turned on the lights to see a possum eating from the grill grease trap. Kyle said at least it's getting cleaned and he doesn't have to do it. Oh ffs.

Today I intend to lounge around and read. But I'll probably end up doing some things around the house. I'm thinking of making banana bars again, but finely dicing up some apple to toss in. I think it'll taste awesome. Plus, extra fiber is never a bad thing. I should make a quick run to Food Lion since we're low on milk.

New Year's Resolutions/Goals
I thought I'd keep a weekly record of these so I can see if anything is getting done. 😆
More reading, less tv ~ Not really though I went through a couple audios.
Go back to the beginning and revamp old blog posts ~ Nothing this week.
Exercise ~ Nope.
Tidy up outside ~ No. Too hot. Way way hot.

Touching Nature:  Hot! A front rolled in Thursday evening and has cooled things off considerably. Whew! Bonus that we got rain, too.

Book News:  I still have a ton of reviews to write. This week is supposed to be wet. Maybe I can make a dent in those.

Don't Touch That Dial!: I finished The Closer. Then half-heartedly surfed around trying to settle on something else. I finally started a rewatch of Murdoch Mysteries.

At the Flicks: Nope.

Cyberspace Playground: Wordle, Word Lots, Crossword Jam, Solitaire, the Finch app - if anyone wants to be friends just let me know.

Randomness:   Ok. Who took this picture of me?!

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: It's perfectly ok to stop and re-evaluate your goals and adjust as needed. The journey doesn't have to be perfect. You just need to get started. You'll get there eventually.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. I see you have favorite thriller writers. I like Viveca Sten and Shari Lapena, among others.
