Hello and Happy Sunday!
On the Home Front
Sunday ~ Since I was very late with the post last week (due to being at the beach) I just copied and pasted for this one. lol
I kept waking up during the night and don't know why. I got up at 5:50 to drink tea and watch the sunrise. Woke Trip up and Anna got up, too. We headed to Kate's for breakfast around 7:30. Thankfully not too busy yet. Afterwards Trip went to the beach to try his hand at fishing since the pier is still closed for repairs. Then we joined him, doing some shell hunting. Kyle hates the heat so he was first back to the room. Then more people were hitting the beach so Trip stopped fishing and went back to the room. Anna and I followed around 9:15. Anna hit the shower and I started packing everything up. We were checked out, the Pilot loaded, and on the road by 11:15. Stopped to fill up on gas before leaving Wilmington. Pit stop at a Sheetz about 1.5 hrs in then we made another stop just west of Raleigh because I am so fucking tired. Anna had a potty break and I did some stretching. We pulled in around 3:15, unloaded, took the dogs out for a potty break, and started unpacking. However, I noticed it was very warm in the house. The thermostat was set for 72 but it was 77 in the house and rising. It's currently 80 as I'm typing this. The contractor came out to check on it, but the HVAC guy can't come until tomorrow. I had Kyle bring my bedroom window unit back into the house and I installed it. It's all my fault for taking it out. I jinxed the whole NEW system. I ordered Domino's for dinner then worked on this post. I hope I sleep good tonight because my ass is dragging.
Monday ~ Thankfully the house cooled off over night. The HVAC guy came around 9:30 and fixed it. Something about a dropped sensor? I have no idea. Trip and I ran errands after he left. Was up at 4:00 to take Kyle to work, but he texted to say OT cancelled for the time being so to pick him up at 3:00 instead of 3:30. I emailed the info required to keep Trip on his dad's insurance after he turns 26 (due to his mental health diagnoses) to the health insurance company and it was approved nearly immediately. Highmark has been a decent insurance company. My mom and dad had it and they checked in regularly with dad regarding his COPD and then with mom when she was diagnosed with stomach cancer. They seem to be a very hands on, in a good way, insurance company. At least in our experience so far. Trip does have Medicaid, but we all know that ship is about to be sunk. Even if it doesn't get bombed, most of the people Trip sees don't take Medicaid, which is bullshit in my opinion. Though I understand why when the gubermint makes them jump through hoops just to get paid.
Tuesday ~ Up at 5:30 to take Kyle to work. I swear I'm more tired with this schedule because I can't come home and go back to bed. On regular time, by the time I get back it's around 6:30, so I just brew my tea and get my day started a bit early. I'm going to try taking a short nap in the afternoon before heading out to pick him up. The gutter guys came around 9:30 and left before noon. All done. The gutters look fantastic! I did manage about a 20 minute nap after working on the computer for awhile.
Wednesday ~ Woke up feeling like shit. Just tired and run down feeling. Not sure why. Captain Kirk had a vet appointment. Fat kitty weighs 13.3 lbs. Though that's good because he has kidney disease and having a bit more weight is better than losing weight. He had bloodwork done. Should have those results tomorrow. Trip and I went to BJ's to order his birthday cake. Since I feel like shit I ended up taking a 2 hour nap on the couch before picking up Kyle. Nancy was waiting here to do the dogs' nails when we got home. Andrew and Larry built the base for the wood burning stove and finished up some trim.
Thursday ~ Artemis had a vet tech appointment to get her lepto booster. Andrew came and installed the shelves and clothes rods in Anna's closet. The siding guy came and finished up the little bit left to do. Now it's all done! Trip did the weed eating and I did the mowing because we've had rain nearly every day and the forecast is looking like ass. So we struck while the iron was briefly dry. Then it was shower time as I was dripping with sweat. Gross lol. Captain Kirk's bloodwork results came back - all good!
Friday ~ Tom, the siding salesman, picked up the leftover siding. I did a bunch of computer work at my desk and took a little nap. Picked Kyle up early since he had a doctor appointment. The doctor we'd used since they were born is retiring this year so Kyle and Trip are seeing a guy doctor at the same practice and Anna and I are seeing a woman doctor. This appointment was just to get him established as a new patient.
Saturday ~ Woke up early to get the furries fed, dogs walked, then we all went to get the oil changed in Kyle's Civic and have breakfast at Pano's next door. After that was done I dropped the boys off. Anna and I hopped in the Pilot and went to Harbor Freight to pick up some tools that were on sale, stopped at Lowe's to pick out ceiling fans and door pulls (for the new built-ins), and hit Salvation Coffee for a beverage. We wanted to go to the No Kings protest but it was in a city a bit farther away and I was so tired. Turns out, it's a good thing we didn't go because I ended up taking Trip to Urgent Care for a suspicious bump and swelling on the back of his knee which turned out to be an abscess. He got a prescription for an antibiotic, given instructions for using a warm compress, and was advised to make an appointment with his primary care physician. So, I'll call Monday. Anna went shopping for a birthday present for Trip. When his Rx was ready I picked it up. By then Anna was home so we did the litter and I mopped the laundry room. I'll just do the rest of the cleaning tomorrow. I'm tired. It thundered for about 2 hours in the evening before it started raining around 9:15. Like we need more of that stuff. Found out my oldest brother has been sick since May 31st and bloodwork on 6/6 showed massive infection of Lyme Disease. It's really kicking his ass, but he's on antibiotics and he has to rest. Not a problem because it has exhausted him. My other brother and his wife have sold their house next to our now former farm and bought a house in South Carolina. My SIL has officially retired from teaching and they've been packing up to move at the end of this month. I forgot to mention that when I found out. I think I did mention back in February that my oldest brother retired. Everyone's lives this year are taking a turn. 2025 is definitely the Year of Changes.
Today It's Trip's 26th birthday. Made French Toast Bake for breakfast and while that was baking we went to BJ's to pick up his cake. He requested pork chops for dinner, so I put them in marinade and stuck them in the fridge. Now I'm working on this post which I was too tired to finish last night. When I'm done I may finish the rest of the cleaning. Just an abbreviated version though. Maybe I'll pack some things up. Or maybe I'll just put my feet up and rest. My right heel, with it's wonderful plantar fasciitis, is aching. I still need to wrap Trip's presents, but that shouldn't take long. Right now I need to add my Chirp purchases from last week's post and from this week so I can get this post out. I can't pass up a good sale.
Construction News ~ The built-ins did not materialize this week, so we should be looking at Monday or Tuesday. Maybe? Tuesday the stone guys are coming to install the stone on the walls behind the wood burning stove and the hearth stones. Still waiting on the mantel pieces to come out of the kiln. Once the built-ins are installed then more painting will be done. The electrician needs to finish install. The plumber needs to move the expansion tank and filter to under the living room addition and install a new hose bib out back. Andrew and Larry (or Brent) need to frame the doors under the additions and install the doors. And they need to build a platform for my generator. I was going to have a small concrete pad poured, but the land slopes so much I told the contractor to just build a platform instead. And a little "house" to protect it from the weather. Once all of the interior stuff is complete the flooring will be laid. We're maybe two weeks away from completion depending on everyone's schedules.
Looking ahead ~ Once the flooring is in we can start moving Anna's furniture in and should be able to get rid of the smaller Pack Rat. We'll have to clear out the areas where they want to remove walls and we'll need to move the living room furniture into the new living room. Which means more packing. The contractor said he will not start tearing out the kitchen cabinets until the new ones are built and ready for install. So that's good news. In the meantime, I need to find a place for Artemis's crate and where to feed the dogs and leave their water. I have a feeling we'll need to cram the dogs into the office which means packing up a bunch of stuff in here to make room. The logistics make me tired. lol
No, this is not a tiny stage. lol It's the base for the wood burning stove.

Another jam packed week for you. It has to be exciting getting closer to the end. I had a problem when I got new Google thermostats where it wanted to change the temp when it thought we were "away" and it always thought we were away. It took me a couple weeks to figure out that was overriding the schedules I created and delete that feature. It was miserable too. I'm not enjoying the daily thunder-rains. It's more like Florida.
