Hello and Happy Sunday!
On the Home Front
Sunday ~ I boxed up some stuff then basically just did nothing. At least, nothing that I can remember.
Monday ~ Siding guys were supposed to come then said Wednesday now they are saying Thursday. Larry and Brent came out to fill in one of the post holes for the deck steps and they put the support post in on the back deck to the overhang.
Tuesday ~ Worked on blog-related things most of the day. I don't remember what else.
Wednesday ~ Had a dental appt that shot my morning, so I worked on blog-related stuff afterwards. I feel like I'm finally getting caught up on tour stuff for The Write Reads. I've honestly thought about just dropping doing stuff for TWR but I like doing it. So, for now, I'll keep it up.
Thursday ~ Larry and Brent came to take stuff off the porch (which Trip and I were going to do, honest!) so they could put down plastic. Siding guys were finally supposed to start today, but it rained. All damn day. The one guy dropped off equipment then the siding and supplies and even managed about an hour working on the front porch. But that was it. Trip and I carried all the DVD boxes to the Pack Rat while it was sprinkling out. Just as we finished it started raining harder. Worked more on blog-related things. I think, maybe, I'm caught up?
Friday ~ Did my usual weekend cleaning and packed up for the beach. In the morning, Mr Puggles had a Proheart shot at the vet and I grabbed Subway sammies for dinner later in the hotel room. Siding guys here all day. Making good progress. They were still working when we left for the beach at 5:45. The contractor was around to supervise and Jess & Ellie showed up later to spend the weekend watching the house and furries. We made it to our hotel around 9:30. Checked in, got settled, and ate our Subway sammies.
Saturday ~ Up at dawn to drink tea and watch the sunrise on the balcony with Trip. Woke up Kyle and Anna then walked across the street for breakfast at Kate's. Then we hit the Farmer's Market a few blocks down the road. So many cool booths and we spent more money than was probably good for us, but it was fun even if was hot and humid as fuck. Went back to the room, cooled off and changed for the beach. Trip changed to swim in the outdoor pool. He doesn't do ocean swimming. Kyle only swims in pools, too. Although he didn't swim at all this trip. He did walk with me and Anna to Breeza (beach supplies and souvenir shop) on the boardwalk so we could grab a few things for the beach and I ended up spending way too much money on a wagon to carry our stuff though it was actually very handy and convenient. As long as it lasts me a few years, I'll be happy. Kyle went back to the room to lounge around (i.e. play video games on his Steam Deck), Trip was in the outdoor pool for awhile, and Anna and I were on the beach or in the ocean until around 4:00. We rented 2 chairs and an umbrella for the outrageous price of $40, but they were well worth it in the end. It was so hot and humid the umbrella was 1000% appreciated and the chairs under it comfy. The beach was pretty crowded though and there was some kind of Music Festival going on just down the beach from us. Unfortunately, despite true diligence with sunblock, Anna got sunburned. Mostly on her shoulders and face. After a quick dip in the outdoor pool we dressed for dinner. Casual dining at a bar & grill right by the hotel. It was pretty good! Then we had to get our ritual fudge order and checked out the rides and food booths on the boardwalk. We only got some cotton candy at a booth, but maybe next time, as long as we're there before they shut down in October, we can do some rides, play some games, and grab a funnel cake or two. We stopped at the bar in the hotel and picked up some Moscow Mules (Sangria for Trip) then headed up to the room where I finally got my shower on. Anna hadn't really been feeling well all day so she crashed on the bed and Trip dozed off, so Kyle and I decided to have an Orange Crush. I went back down to the bar (in my jammies but also a cover up lol) and grabbed them. Since everyone was tired we didn't play Cards Against Humanity this time. I was in bed by 11:30 but slept like shit. At home, the siding guys worked all day until nearly 7. They got it nearly all done and the little bit left won't affect the gutter guys who will hopefully come Monday.
Today ~ I kept waking up during the night and don't know why. I got up at 5:50 to drink tea and watch the sunrise. Woke Trip up and Anna got up, too. We headed to Kate's for breakfast around 7:30. Thankfully not too busy yet. Afterwards Trip went to the beach to try his hand at fishing since the pier is still closed for repairs. Then we joined him, doing some shell hunting. Kyle hates the heat so he was first back to the room. Then more people were hitting the beach so Trip stopped fishing and went back to the room. Anna and I followed around 9:15. Anna hit the shower and I started packing everything up. We were checked out, the Pilot loaded, and on the road by 11:15. Stopped to fill up on gas before leaving Wilmington. Pit stop at a Sheetz about 1.5 hrs in then we made another stop just west of Raleigh because I am so fucking tired. Anna had a potty break and I did some stretching. We pulled in around 3:15, unloaded, took the dogs out for a potty break, and started unpacking. However, I noticed it was very warm in the house. The thermostat was set for 72 but it was 77 in the house and rising. It's currently 80 as I'm typing this. The contractor came out to check on it, but the HVAC guy can't come until tomorrow. I had Kyle bring my bedroom window unit back into the house and I installed it. It's all my fault for taking it out. I jinxed the whole NEW system. I ordered Domino's for dinner then worked on this post. I hope I sleep good tonight because my ass is dragging.
Construction News ~ This should be a busy week. HVAC guys are coming some time Monday to see what's up with the new system. Again. Andrew and Larry will be by to build the base for the wood burning stove (contractor placed the order for the stones to go on the wall behind it) and to frame and set my doors for under the additions. I was going to have a concrete pad for my generator, but the way the land slopes I think I'll just have them build it from wood. That might also be on the schedule this week. The cabinet guy will have the built-ins ready to install and the siding guys may be by at some point to finish up the little bit that's left. Oh! And the gutter guys are coming this week, too. We are in the home stretch for Phase I completion.
Touching Nature: Rain, sun, rain, sun, rain, rain, then hot and humid. Gross.
Book News: I got nothing to share here. Ugh.
Don't Touch That Dial!: Anna and I finished Lucifer and started Lost. I watched this when it first came out and I think stopped in Season 3? Maybe? I have no idea how it ends and I'm enjoying the mysteries I've forgotten about. After we're done we may watch Heroes.
At the Flicks: Nope
Cyberspace Playground: Wordle, Word Lots, Crossword Jam, Solitaire, jigsaw puzzles, the Finch app - is anyone wants to be friends just let me know.
Randomness: I don't know who designed this bird feeder, but I think it's hilarious!
Randomness: I don't know who designed this bird feeder, but I think it's hilarious!
Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: I'm going to get one of those over the door organizers to use when we go to the beach. Having 4 toiletry bags on a small bathroom sink does not leave much room for actually doing things like washing your face or brushing teeth.
That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

Wow you are watching some classic television. I quit on Heroes somewhere in the middle. Lucifer was fun and while LOST is amazing.. it is also so frustrating.
ReplyDeleteI too do not swim in the ocean. I am afraid I will get swept away.
Both shows were ones I started and never finished when they were out. lol I love Lucifer and have watched it several times now. :D
DeleteI don't go far in the ocean and this trip I didn't even get past wading up to my thighs.
