Hello and Happy Sunday!

On the Home Front

Sunday ~ I made French Toast bake for breakfast.  For dinner, in the Instant pot I made 4 cups of rice then made Mississippi Pot Roast for dinner. So glad I bought an extra insert for it. Saves me having to wash the pot right after (when it's hot!) before I can use it again. In-between breakfast and dinner I did a ton of laundry. Like, I think, literally a ton. lol In-between loads of laundry I worked on the computer.

Monday ~ Memorial Day. Kyle and Anna have the day off. I was in the kitchen nearly all day. I made 2 pans of brownies, 3 lbs of bacon, boiled eggs in the Instant Pot (6 out of 10 I made deviled eggs) then did 5 lbs of frozen skinless boneless chicken breast for the dogs. After it's cool I shred and freeze it. This usually lasts a month for them since they get a small amount in the morning with their kibble. For dinner, Kyle grilled hot dogs and hamburgers out on the new front porch. It started to rain. But this new front porch doesn't do something the other one did in abundance: leak! It's so nice! Raul came to scrape Anna's popcorn ceiling then mud it. It looks great!

Tuesday ~ The contractor's guys, Andrew and Brent, came to work on the trim. They did around the windows and baseboards. I worked on the computer.

Wednesday ~ Eevee had a vet appointment. All is well. She just needed a booster and a wellness check. She absolutely does not like going into the carrier. It's like wrestling a bear. I need to find a different one so I don't have to unscrew the 100 screws that hold it together, so I can sandwich her in while she fights to get back out. Ugh. Andrew and Brent were back to work more on the trim and they set Anna's window, so now they (or anyone else, like the painters and flooring guys) will need to come into the house to do any work on her room.

Thursday ~ Made 2 loaves of banana bread and shared with Andrew and Brent. Also shared a pitcher of sweet tea, my special flavor of Bigelow Raspberry Royale, Lipton, and a black raspberry syrup. Worked on getting caught up with The Write Reads stuff. In the evening, thunderstorms rolled through and it poured about 6 separate times. Got 4.25" of rain in 2 hrs. The drive is a freaking mess! Even though Anna's window is in, everyone is climbing in and out it instead of coming inside. LOL The patio door is in but the latch is being finicky so they're going to try longer screws for it tomorrow.

Friday ~ My day started off crappy. Kyle took the day off (not crappy), so he and Trip decided to go along to change the oil in Anna's car so they could have breakfast at Pano's. Except her car wouldn't start. WTF So we ran to Waffle House in the Pilot. Got home and Andrew and Larry were there to finish up some work. They looked at her car, fiddled with the battery cables, and it started. Excellent but ugh. We should have left then, but I had Kyle get the Kubota out and fix the drive while Trip and I spread my dirt piles by the porch. Then I hooked the Ford tractor up to the Kubota and Kyle pulled it around front since the wasband had a rollback coming to take it to his place. At 11:00 we crated the dogs and left Andrew and Larry doing their thing (they had the plywood down and I didn't want them to be responsible for the dogs going in the new addition and possibly out the patio door) and took Anna's car to get the oil changed. Except they were super busy and I couldn't wait around since the rollback was coming at 1:00. We had lunch at Pano's. Well, the boys did, I was still full from breakfast. I ordered lunch to go for Anna and dropped her car at work and picked up Kyle's car. Raul showed up to do a bit of work then everyone was gone by 4:00. Kyle grilled brats and hot dogs for dinner. Anna went out with April for April's birthday.

Saturday ~ Up at 6:00 to get the furries fed and dogs walked before taking Anna's car to get an oil change. Everyone went so we could eat breakfast at Pano's. lol Car was done quick then we dropped off the tractor key, a tarp, and a few other things to the wasband before heading home. Came home to find Raul waiting on us. I had told them we should be home by 9:00 and we were home at 8:45. They got to work priming. Then Rigo showed up to do some drywall finishing of the entrance to the new living room. Everyone left around 5:00. I did the usual Saturday cleaning as well as the first weekend of the month cleaning. Stopped for lunch around 2:00 and had a hot dog and brat then promptly took a nap in my seat. Woke up around 3:30 and boxed up the rest of the DVDs and some of the video games before running out of the small boxes Anna brought home. There's enough games left to fill one of those boxes about 3/4 full, but maybe I'll put them in a bigger box with the board games. Or see if the boys want to put them back in their room. Anna went to see Bring Her Back with April for a continuation of her birthday. It rained a little bit when it wasn't supposed to. Grrrr! We are sopping wet with squishy squishy mud everywhere!

Today I'll probably box up some more stuff and then relax for awhile. My BBNYA2025 First Round excerpts did drop into my inbox, so maybe I should knock a few of those out while relaxing.

Construction News ~ The siding guys are supposed to come Monday. I think when they are done the gutter guys are coming. The painters have primed so they'll probably be back around Weds to paint. I believe Andrew (and probably Larry) will be back to build the base for the wood burning stove. The contractor is supposed to be bringing me stone samples. I wanted to reuse the ones around my fireplace, but we won't have enough because many of them are corner stones and too thick for what we need. I'll try to reuse them elsewhere. The cabinet guy is getting close to being done with the built-ins. I'm still waiting for the call that my mantel pieces are done being kiln-dried. If I don't hear from them soon I'll give a call this week. When the additions are done the first thing the contractor wants to do in Phase II is demo any walls that are coming out. The fireplace, the breakfast bar, and the half-wall and column by the front door all are being removed. I need to get a bunch of stuff packed up and figure out where I'm going to feed the dogs and keep their water as well as where to put the T-Mobile home internet modem. Logistics suck. I talked with Raul (he does the drywall and the painting) about painting the front porch and he said white stain instead of paint would be better. It'll last longer, look better, and be easier to reapply when needed. It also won't need primer. So I'll go to Lowe's and get a sample to see what I think, but I believe he's correct. In any case, the front porch and back deck will be the absolute final finishing touch. The wood needs time to dry (at least 60 days) and with Phase II coming up fast we decided to wait until no construction traffic is going in and out, so that will be 60 days and then some. I need to get my big couch listed on Facebook to see if anyone wants it otherwise it's going outside to head to the dump. I need to make room for boxes and stuff. Honestly, I would not be surprised if my head actually exploded with everything I need to figure out. For the millionth time, I wish I had a garage.

Touching Nature: The word of the week is rain. It would rain then we'd think it would be dry for a bit, but no. More rain. Then a huge storm on Thursday followed by a bit of sun and a clear forecast, but no. Again. A bit more rain. We need to dry out here! FFS

Book News: I'm finishing audiobooks, but not getting reviews written. I am so far behind. Ugh. I have not caught up on answering comments to the blog. And I haven't been doing any visiting. To anyone. I'm so stressed and tired. *dies*

Don't Touch That Dial!:  Anna and I want to continue Lost but I put my foot down about finishing Lucifer first. Season 6 only has 10 episodes. We have now finished 8 of them. Only 2 to go. While she's been busy a few evenings I've rewatched some of season 1 of Arrow. And I squeezed in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. I usually end up dozing off which is why I don't even attempt to read anymore. At least with tv, I don't care if I fall asleep while watching.

At the Flicks: Nope

Cyberspace Playground: Wordle, Word Lots, Crossword Jam, Solitaire, jigsaw puzzles, the Finch app - is anyone wants to be friends just let me know.

Randomness:

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: I think I shared this some time ago, but it's a good reminder: if you use dryer sheets then about every month you should wash your lint screen with hot soapy water and a brush. I just use a nail brush or an old toothbrush that has been downgraded to a cleaning tool. The dryer sheets create a waxy build up on your screen and it restricts air flow over time. This makes your dryer work harder and takes longer to get clothes dry. Wash your screen until the water runs through it and doesn't bead up on top of it.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

  1. We've had a lot of rainy weather here too, but since that seems to have stopped, I have to get out the hose for watering the grass and flower seeds in back! Happy days! Have a good week.

  2. It's no wonder you are tired with all you did this week. I think the rain which we only get a little often late afternoon or at night, keeps it a bit cooler so I don't mind it.
