--- AVR News Update ---
Hello and Happy Sunday!

On the Home Front: My week has been fairly uneventful, as in no drama. However, Weds was Anna's 20th birthday and Friday was hubby's 49th. So...cake! Lotsa cake!

We're adjusting to hubby's 2nd shift schedule. It's been awhile, but we're getting the hang of it again. He had to work yesterday, but is off today and he's taking Monday off for his fair share day. That means since he donates an hour pay each month to United Way the company gives him a paid day off in his birth month. Friday was his birthday, but there was no point taking it off since he had to work Saturday, so we figured he could take Monday since he doesn't work today. Confused? lol

Touching Nature: We weren't affected much by the aftereffects of Irma here in central NC. Just rain for a couple days. Nothing too spectaular. I am disappointed that the temps have climbed back into the 80s during the day and 60s at night though. That means I had to finally turn on the A/C yesterday since the house gets too stuffy. I'm looking forward to it dropping back into the 70s/50s.

Book News: I have been bad. I have 5 reviews to write because I keep starting a book after I finish one. Now, I really need to write those up before I get much father along and forget all about them.

Don't Touch That Dial!: Trip and I finished our Star Wars: Clone Wars rewatch. We're debating when to start watching in chronological order, starting with Phantom Menace. In the meantime, we started Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and we're loving it. Hubby and I have managed to fit in a few NCIS and I've watched several episodes of the old Twilight Zone series.

At the Flicks: Nope, not yet.

Cyberspace Playground: I watched this while I was eating one day. Now I really want to watch Spaceballs, but it's not on Netflix anymore. :(

Randomness: Every book I've suggested to the library, they've purchased. I've lost track of how many books, but I know I'm in the upper 30s or low 40s range.

Carol's Nuggets of Wisdom: Write your reviews after you finish the book. Don't wait around or you'll forget everything. I'm really terrible at this nugget of wisdom and probably always will be.

That's it for me. AVR News Update signing off. May all your books enthrall you.

One of my suggested purchases came in,
but it was for my husband.
See? I don't just suggest books for myself. :)

  1. Your nugget of wisdom is on spot, I think. If I wait until I have brilliant thoughts, I end up forgetting my first impressions of the story, and shape the review around what I remember. Not so good. Better to put down strong first impressions, however weak the writing is.

  2. I try hard to write reviews right after finishing the book. Doesn't work that way a lot of the time. In fact, I'm writing a review for a book that's no longer available right now. It was a limited time release and now I can't find any links to it. Guess I should have got to it sooner.

  3. I really need to start writing my reviews right after I get done reading the books, by the time I get around to it I have pretty much forgot what I wanted to say about it. Ugh.... Enjoy Fatal Brushstroke. :)

  4. Happy Birthday to your husband and Anna! I celebrated mine last weekend rather quietly. I'm usually more into it, but this year not so much. I'm not really sure why. I remember working 2nd shift. It certainly had its advantages, although I am glad to be back on a day shift now.

I'm loving these days in the 80's. It's downright fall like for my part of the country. We've even turned off the air conditioner a bit and been able to open the windows. So nice! It's funny how differently we think of the weather, isn't it? Depending on what we are used to.

I am behind on my review writing too, and really need to get on it. I have two in particular I want to review for next week's Banned Book week and I haven't even started on them. I'm so terrible. I hope you are able to get caught up with your review writing!

I hope you have a great week!

  5. I'm sure second shift is hard :/ Hope it gets easier. The day off is complicated for sure! My husbands company does something similar though, so I get it. He never takes his birthday, unless it falls on a day that gives him a longer weekend. Happy birthdays!!! LOL! Have a great week :)

  6. Your Nugget of Wisdom is so true and I really try to do that but some times I forget and then well I forget...lol. :)

    Have a great week!

  7. I so agree with your nugget of wisdom though I'm not great about actually doing it! I do try and write down a few notes after I finish the book if I know I'm not going to be able to write the review for a little while. I think I worked for a government contractor for so long that the day off thing makes perfect sense. I'm not sure what that says about my brain but I don't think it's good! Happy birthday to your husband and your daughter. That's so cool about the library! Mine has a feature to request books but I haven't used it yet. One day though! Have a great week!

  8. Visiting late this week! Was so busy :) I'm going to tell you something funny though, do you know I actually saw Spaceballs BEFORE I saw Star Wars? :D hilarious, I know.
    Have a great week :)

  9. I'm also bad about waiting to review books. I have one that's been finished for probably a month. When school is in session, it is bad. I hope your daughter and husband had great birthday!
